WHY DIM

WHY DIM???
Save Energy, Money, Lamps, Environment

Typically most of the budget on a remodel or construction project goes to other areas of your home or business. You need walls and a roof, some plumbing is nice, cabinets, countertops, bath fixtures, paint, flooring, etc... Many of these things are exciting to pick out as you design your living spaces. Traditionally, however, the lighting and lighting control especially, are taken for granted. Perhaps the manufacturers of these products have done a poor job of marketing, or perhaps you never cared to research it any further. If you had found a dimmer or special colored switch you like perhaps the price or lack of availability drove you away. Hopefully the following information will help you understand how dimming can improve your living atmosphere and in doing so save time, money, labor & help the environment.

Dimming Saves Money & Energy. Sure the typical dimmers cost in the neighborhood of $15-$20 & up, compared to a standard switch this might be as much as ten times the cost. This is what turns many of us away, but we need to look further. The nature of the dimmer working at a small percentage of dimming, 10% dim, can save 10% of the electricity. But this is just a small return on your investment. the big savings is in the lamps, please read on...

Dimming makes incandescent bulbs last longer. By dimming the same 10%, which is hardly noticeable in most cases, you can make your Incandescent lamps last longer. Typically two times longer. So if you have just paid $20 for a dimmer and you're running 6 - 75watt lamps, you just doubled their life. If you paid $3 for the lamps that's $18 you just saved. If you would have dimmed 25% they would last 4 times as long, saving $54. Not to mention the savings in electricity, and you having to go to the store to get new lamps, get a ladder out of the garage and changing them. So by dimming only 10% you've reduced the dimmers cost to that of a standard switch. If you've dimmed further, the dimmer is saving you more money, and longer lamp life.

Dimming helps save the environment. By the nature of dimming your saving electricity. Just by this simple fact your helping reduce emissions from power generating plants. Sure it's a small degree, put every little bit helps right? With more and more people dimming this these little savings add up. By increasing lamp life, you are contributing even more by reducing waste, in packaging, shipping, and every other process involved with manufacturing, distribution and disposal of lamps.

Dimming improves our living environment. By dimming the lights in areas of our home we use every day we can enhance the experiences in those areas. Dim the lights in the dinning room for a more romantic occasion. Dim the lights in the living room or den to get a more theatre like experience. Dim the lights in your hallways, exterior, or other less essential areas for reasons of energy & lamp savings. Dim the lights in the bathrooms for those middle of the night visits where harsh intense light is undesirable. Dim the children's rooms at night for a nightlight effect, instilling feelings of security. There are many reasons to dim, and many ways to do it. Adding a whole home lighting control system only adds to all the features of dimming.

Whole home Lighting control. By taking all the advantages of dimming and adding localized or centralized master control to all or some of your lighting you can simplify your life. Next time you walk through your home at night, think about how many times you turn switches on and off. Then get into bed and wonder if any were left on. By adding a whole home control you can make your lighting controls work to  your benefit. You can enter you home with one press of a button light the entry, hall and all the lights to your destination. Another press of a button recalls your favorite light levels for your home theatre experience. You heard a noise outside? A press of the bedside control allows you to turn on the exterior lighting, and light your way to a good vantage point for what the cause might be. Forgot if you left a light on? A glance at the bedside control lets you know what lights are on, lets you know if your children are up past their bed time and allows you to shut them off as well. There are many other reasons and benefits to whole home lighting control. Please enquire more for your application....
